Adding a Catalog To Your Site
Hover over the eCommerce tab on the top menu bar then click on the Catalogs option on the 2nd level menu.
Adding a catalog gives us 'placeholder' on our website to display each of our products. You're going to create a new book catalog called "Cooking, Food and Wine". Feel free to make a catalog for products from your own shop instead, create a catalog by clicking on 'Create a new Catalog' inside the action box.
This will bring up the Catalog detailed form where you can enter the information for your new catalog.
In this form you'll need to:
- Enter a name for your catalog
- Upload a small image (110x110 pixels) as the thumbnail image for the catalog
- Change the 'Template' so that 'Use Default Template' option is selected. This will ensure that the catalog look and feel is the same as the website and other catalogs
- Choose the parent catalog, catalogs can be subcatalogs within other catalogs, if there is no parent catalog then set the parent to 'Root'
- Save the catalog
This completes the catalog creation process. If you've set Catalogs parent catalog to 'Root' then you'll have to add the Catalog to a page or to a menu by using one of the options in the action box.
Add Products To Your Catalog in 3 Simple Steps
Hover over the ecommerce tab on the top menu bar and click the products option on the menu that appears to bring up your products manager.
You'll see a list of all the products inside your online shop listed in alphabetical order. Clicking on any of these products will bring up the detailed edit view for that product.
For this tutorial you're going to add a new product here and then add this product to the catalog you created above. Each product can be added to as many catalogs as you wish.
Click on the 'Create a New Product' button inside the action box to bring up the detailed product view to enter the product information. You're going to enter the details for a cookbook as part of this tutorial but feel free to use your own example.
Step 1: Fill in product details
- Type in the product name "Cook With Jamie - My Guide to Making You a Better Cook"
- Upload a small thumbnail image for the book cover (use the sample provided "CookJamieOliver-Small.jpg"), note that thumbnail images should be 120x90pixels in size
- Upload a large detailed image (use the sample provided "CookJamieOliver-Large.jpg") - note that the best size for large product images is approximately 450x320pixels
- Provide a brief description of your product in the "Product Description" editor. There's sample text contained in "CookJamieOliver-text.txt"
Step 2: Enter product prices
Choose the currency that the product will be sold in and a enter a Sell Price ($24.75). You can add multiple currencies here depending on which countries you sell to. Click 'Save Price'. You can also add a 'Recommended Retail Price' to show that your product is being discounted.
Step 3: Add product to a catalog
Finally you need to add this product to a catalog - select the catalog (Cooking, Food and Wine) that you want the product to appear in and click on the Move to Catalog button to move the product into the catalog. Products must belong to at least 1 or more catalogs to be displayed on your site.
Go Shopping On Your Own Website
